2001 Sony Open In Hawaii Qualifier, 1998' & 2000' Hawaii Long Drive Champion, Tommy Kim

At the 2000 Hawaii Golf Expo. I had the pleasure of meeting Tommy Kim as he was there to do demonstrations.  I talked with Tommy for a while and asked him a few questions about his natural talent to hit "the deep one"  I watched Tommy perform his demonstration, his warm up swings were pretty impressive just hearing the whipping sound from him swinging the club made me realize that he like all the long hitters have a natural talent and either you have it or you don't.  He addressed the ball and hit the first one and when he hits the golf ball it sounds very different than most of us average players.  His first drive went 340 yards, the second one 368 yards, and through out the golf expo. he did demonstrations with his best effort at 376 yards!

Tommy how fast is your club head speed? Its been measured at 154mph. Sometimes its a little higher, sometimes its a little lower

What's the longest drive you ever hit in competition? 386 yards

What's the longest drive you ever hit off the record? 400 plus yards

What's your ball speed? About 202 mph

Tommy uses a Titleist 975D with 5.5 degrees of loft, the shaft is a Harrison graphite 2.5 Extra, and its 47" long.
