Dean Wilson Finishes T10!

2008 Players Championship- TPC Sawgrass, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, May 8-11.

5.11.2008-- Dean Wilson (right) had another solid finish after closing with a 3-under par 69 to finish T10 in the 2008 Players Championship at the TPC Sawgrass Course in Ponte Vedra Beach Florida. Wilson started the day T47 but his 3 under in difficult conditions was the second best score in the final round today. Dean's total tournament score was 2-over par 290 (74-72-75-69) and he earned $218,500 for his performance. Sergio Garcia won on the first playoff hole (#17) with a par 3 over Paul Goydos after both golfers finished regulation play tied at 5-under par 283 respectively. Team Punahou Successfully Defends Crown, Moanalua's Kristina Merkle Captures Individual Title!

2008 HHSAA/David S. Ishii Foundation Hawaii High School Golf Championship, Girls- Wailua Municipal Golf Course, May 6-7.

5.7.2008-- Team Punahou successfully defended their state team crown with a two day score of 441 (220-221--441) at Waialua Municipal Golf course on Kauai today. Leading the way for Punahou was the 2007 individual champion Junior Anna Jang who placed T2 in the individual portion just one shot off the pace. In 2nd place was team Waiakea with a pair of 229's good for a total score of 458 led by Junior Britney Yada who finished T2 in the individual portion. Rounding out the top three was team Maui with rounds of 227 and 237 for a total of 464. Maui High was led by Senior Elyse Okada who placed 4th in the individual portion with a score of 5-over par 149. In the individual competition, Moanalua's Kristina Merkle (pictured) captured the '08 crown after carding rounds of 71 & 75 for a tournament total of 2-over par 146. Merkle is a Junior at Moanalua and is the defending Jennie K. Wilson Women's Invitational champion. Rounding out the top three were two golfers tied at 3-over par 147; Punahou Junior Anna Jang (74-73) and Waiakea Junior Britney Yada (70-77). 108th US Open Local Qualifier Oahu, 2008- Turtle Bay Resort George Fazio Course, May 9 & 2008 US Women's Open Local Qualifier- Turtle Bay Resort George Fazio Course, May 9.

5.9.2008-- U S Open and U S Women's Open Local Qualifiers were conducted jointly at the Turtle Bay Resort's George Fazio Golf Course today. Two players advanced to the U S Open Sectional Qualifier, and three players advanced to the U S Women's Open Sectional Qualifier.

Hot weather with winds gusting from 15 to 25 miles an hour, as well as fast greens made for tough scoring conditions.

Pierre-Henri Soerro of New Caledonia fired a 2-under par 70 to lead the men over the 6,634 yard Fazio Course. Soerro had 5 birdies, a bogey, and a double bogey, and will play at the Sectional Qualifier at Jupiter Hills Country Club in Tequesta, Florida on June 2nd.

Four men tied at 73, with Damien Jamila of Waimanalo advancing to the Sectional Qualifier at Lake Merced Golf Club by winning a playoff on the second hole with a par.

Cyd Okino of Honolulu led the Women with an even par 72 on the 6,271 yard Fazio Course. Okino had 2 birdies and 2 bogeys during her round. Anna Jang from Aiea and Bridget Dwyer from Kailua both finished with 76's to also advance to Sectional Qualifiers. Okino and Jang have selected to play in the Sectional Qualifier at Turtle Bay's Palmer Course on June 9th; and Dwyer will play at Skokie Country Club in Glencoe, Illinois.

Sectional Qualifying over 36 holes will be conducted for both the U S Open and U S Women's Open at 13 sites and 7 sites respectively in June.

The 2008 U. S. Open Championship will be held at Torrey Pines, in San Diego, California, on June 12th through the 15th. The 2008 U. S. Women's Open Championship will be held at Interlachen Country Club, on June 26th through the 29th. The championship format will be four rounds of stroke play.

The U.S. Open and the U. S. Women's Open are two of 13 national championships conducted annually by the USGA.

A Come From Behind Win for Alex Ching at Mamala Bay!

2008 Mamala Bay Hickam AFB Invitational- May 2-4.

5.4.2008-- Alex Ching (pictured) fired a closing round of 3-under par 69 today to seal the come from behind win at the 2008 Mamala Bay Hickam AFB Invitational. Ching started the day 2 shots back of 36 hole leader Joey Sakaue who managed a final round of 1-over par 73 to finish in 3rd with a total of 2-under par 214 (74-67-73). Ching's tournament total was 4-under par 212 (77-66-69) which included a tournament low round of 6-under par 66 in round 2 yesterday to put him in contention heading into today's final round. Besting his tournament finish from a year ago (3rd) by one spot up the leader board was Lorens Chan who was the runner up this year with a score of 3-under par 213 (74-69-70). The Senior flight winner was Shigeru Matsui (right) who won on the 3rd playoff hole over Paul Kimura after both completed regulation play at 5-over par 221 respectively. Matsui aced the par 3 2nd hole with a 6 iron yesterday in round 2, congratulations to him! The Super Senior flight winner was George Yamamoto with a total of 15-over par 231. With a score of 7-over par 223 was Ryan Kuroiwa who won the A-flight while Brian Pang topped the B-flight at 20-over par 236.  Final full field scores for all flights now posted.
