14-year-old
Lorens Chan of Iolani (pictured above) was the
only player to card red numbers in all three rounds and thus
ripped the field by 8 shots enroute to his commanding victory in
the rain shortened 2009 Hawaii State Amateur Stroke Play
Championship at Pearl Country Club. Chan closed with a 3-under
par 69 today and posted a final 54-hole tournament score of
10-under par 206 (71-66-69).
Chan's impressive victory can be compared to the old saying,
"What golf course was he playing this week?" If Lorens had 18
more holes he might have broken the low 72 hole tournament
record of 13-under par 275 set by Chris Santangelo back in 1983.
18 hole leader
Jonathan Ota was the runner up at 2-under par 214
(70-70-74) while
Ryan Perez rounds out the top three at 1-under
par 215 (71-68-76). Final scores posted
