10.19.2011 Honolulu, HI- Ryan Michimoto of Kapalua and
Kevin Shimomura of Ko Olina Golf Club crept into the event
as a 15 seed and upset after upset they are the last men
standing after 90 holes of golf in three days winning in
the finals 2&1 over Kevin Hayashi and Lance Taketa. It
wasn’t easy as they took on Kevin Hayashi and Lance Taketa
of Hilo Municipal Golf Course who have a reputation that
speaks for itself.
"We got some breaks when we needed and we ham and egged it
really well," says Michimoto and Shimomura. "For us it was
the birdie on 14 that was a momentum changer. We played
steady on the front 9 and told ourselves we just had nine
more holes to play," says Michimoto. "Our best match of
the tournament was the morning match today where I think I
shot 8 under on my own ball." Michimoto and Shimomura will
split the $3,000 top prize.
Special thanks to Jay Hinazumi of Nike Golf for sponsoring
the event and to Andrew Feldmann, PGA for hosting the
event at Oahu Country Club.
Semi Final Results

Team Kevin Hayashi and Lance Taketa move on to the finals
at the 2011 Nike Four-Ball Match Play at Oahu Country
Club. Ryan Michimoto of Kapalua was present as a partner
but was not needed much as Kevin Shimomura of Ko Olina
Golf Club shot 63 on his own ball. Over the last three
days conditions have been perfect at Oahu Country Club to
go along with perfect course conditions made the perfect
storm for birdies to fly left, right, up, down. Shane Abe
and Dave Eichelberger gave all they had in the match and
showed signs of life when Eichelberger eagled the 15th to
get the match within one. With both teams paring on the
par 3 16th, Shimomura closed out Abe/Eichelberger on the
pursuing 17th with a birdie to win 2 & 1.
Kevin Hayashi and Lance Taketa of Hilo Municipal Golf
Course were 3up thru 7 against the home course favorites
of Andrew Feldmann and Larry Stubblefield. Hayashi/Taketa
held on to a 3up lead going into the 12th but then
Feldmann/Stubblefield caught fire making 4 straight
birdies bringing the match all square through 15. Taketa
would go on to birdie the drivable 17th to go 1up. Pars
from both sides on 18 sent Feldmann/Stubblefield home with
a 1 down loss. Two straight years these teams have met in
the semifinals using all 18 holes both ending in 1up wins.
That series between them is now tied a one a piece.
