Travis Toyama Captures the 94th Manoa Cup and History!

Pictured above left Oahu Country Club President Gary Wild and Travis Toyama right.

6/8/2002-  15-year-old Travis Toyama of Kaneohe became the youngest player today in the 94-year history of the Manoa Cup to win the prestigious tournament. Toyama broke Chipper Gariss Jr.’s record set in 1967 when he won the event at age 17. Toyama won today’s final match with a score of 5 & 3 over former 1996 Manoa Cup Champion Damien Victorino of Kauai. The Manoa Cup is also the third longest running tournament in the Nation behind number one "The U.S. Open" and number two "The Western Open". This tournament is rich in history as well as tradition dating back to 1907.

I like to send special thanks/aloha to tournament director Jay Hinazumi of the Hawaii State Golf Association, Head Professional of Oahu Country Club Andrew Feldmann and his staff, and David and Amy Kim for all the help/support!

Tournament Director Jay Hinazumi of the Hawaii State Golf Association (left) & Oahu Country Club's Head Professional Andrew Feldmann (right) are the ones behind the scenes making sure everything runs smoothly. Hats off to these two gentlemen for running a "Class A" tournament. All were accommodated with such professionalism and gracious hospitality. The players, media, and the fans. They both stress the much appreciated thanks/aloha to the members especially of Oahu Country Club for giving up the course on an annual basis for the tournament!
