The
6,570 yard, par 72 Kahili golf course was constructed in 1991 and designed
by Robin Nelson and Rodney Wright. Its new owners have made the financial
commitment to making the golf course even better than ever. Robin recently
came back to enhance playability by softening the landing areas, lowering
greens, adding tees, installing all-new putting green surfaces (TiffEagle),
adding new bunkering and replacing all of the course’s sand. Kahili now
sports new carts with GPS, and a staff trained for the ultimate in resort
quality guest service. Carved out of the foothills of the scenic West Maui
Mountains, the design of Kahili golf gourse takes advantage of the local
terrain and Hawaiian trade winds to create a unique golf experience. The
par 3s on the back side lay up and downhill to small greens. On the front
side, a small dry creek bed and a lake come into play; accuracy is a must.
The par 4s are designed to make the golfer work to get to the greens in
regulation. There are many elevation changes combined with doglegs in both
directions. The par 5s are designed to give the long ball hitter a chance
for a birdie or possibly an eagle. Kahili, with a commanding clubhouse, is
now open to the public and will make for a fun outing.
